We are eager to introduce Jeffrey Knick to our Argo community. Jeffrey, a landscape & architectural painter, found us through word of mouth and we are so pleased. Immediately taken by his work, we collaborated ideas and Jeffrey landed on a remarkable exhibit encompassing scenes and iconic landmarks from the Columbus area. We love seeing these everyday locales brought to life in his highly detailed pen and watercolor paintings in his Art at Argo’s exhibit, “Steeped: An Artist’s Love for Columbus”.
About Jeffrey
Jeffrey is a local artist who resides with his family (wife and 4 and 6 year old children) in Worthington, OH. He was raised just outside of Columbus, Ohio, on a family farm along the Big Darby Creek. At a young age, he fell in love with the picturesque beauty of the landscape. His passion for art began at an early age when he fell in love with the picturesque beauty of the landscape. He began classes at CCAD (Columbus College of Art and Design) in the 6th grade, and as soon as the 7th grade he learned that he wanted to teach from the kind hand of his own art teacher at Hilliard Davis High School. After graduating from CCAD with a Bachelors in Fine Art and Xavier University with a Masters in Education, Jeffrey returned to the Columbus area to teach. Just as many have done, Jeffrey chose a new path once the pandemic hit. He has now made the leap to focus on his art full time.
His Art
He began with a strong focus on oil painting as well as stone carving & sculpture. Jeffrey switched to acrylics mainly from a concern for the harsh chemicals of oil. From there he began different collaging techniques and for the past 5 years has concentrated on watercolor & ink cityscapes from past travels. He enjoys the challenge that watercolor brings and prefers to paint what is familiar. Jeffrey’s love for the land and connection with people through many years of teaching all come together to generate art with a deep appreciation for people’s connection to a place. This comes through in Jeffrey’s work, where sometimes he takes his viewers to the biggest attraction around, like Times Square, and sometimes he shows you the alley behind all the action where the workers enter for their next shift. We look forward to your reaction of his work and knowing your personal connection to the scenes he has chosen for this exhibit.
Artist Statement
Steeped: An Artist’s Love for Columbus
“The paintings for Steeped: The Artist’s Love for Columbus are a collection of scenes meant to capture the essence of my relationship with my home town. The scenes are amongst the many places that have saturated my psyche – steeping my soul with lasting impressions – landmarks of recollection. The paintings capture or recreate everyday scenes ever present in my memory. These works are meant to take the viewer there – to imagine or step into a specific place and time – even if only for a brief second and allow the viewer to share in that warm familiar feeling. They are intended to resonate deeply with and bring back memories for my neighbors – reminding them of their own love for Columbus.”
