We are pleased to announce that emerging artist/painter, Shomais Shirazi, will be showcasing her watercolors in our latest Art at Argo installation, “Glimpses of Nature”. A dear friend of Argo & Lehne through the jewelry industry, we have watched her art evolve and finally convinced her to share her beautiful work with our community. She has immense talent, and we have delighted in watching her develop and hone in on her personal style.
Why Watercolor?
From a very young age, watercolors were the medium Shomais preferred. She was overjoyed to see them and always pointed them out to her family. She is drawn to the difficulty and challenge that watercolor painting poses. Planning and precision are crucial to this medium. Many may believe it is a work of free and fluid motions but that’s the magic of watercolor. Its delicate light touch gives this illusion, but its transparency makes mistakes nearly impossible to cover up. You must really understand the movement of the paint and how to manipulate it just right.
As a gemologist, Shomais is drawn to color and loves the juxtaposition of lights and darks that watercolor embodies. She also enjoys the challenge of mixing colors for that perfect hue.
Artist Statement
“My most cherished moments have always been admiring in awe the work of the greatest artist of all time, Mother Nature and her many miracles, big or small…a world of color and beauty. The combination of colors, shadow and light, lines and shapes, and ultimately the mood of the scene determine my subject matter. Appreciating nuisances of color in my everyday life working with precious gems, fuels my passion for a colorful presentation of what I observe. For now, I have chosen watercolor as my medium of expression, for its transparency, subtle softness and the ability of colors to be fluid and flowing as they freely mix on paper. I hope to fine tune my personal style as I grow as an artist, continuing to offer glimpses of beauty that evolve and shift as they mature in expression. Thank you for stopping by for a glimpse!”
